About Humble Coffee Society™

What is the difference here?

The best coffee is the coffee you like

We believe taste is personal, not prescriptive. There’s no right or wrong way to enjoy coffee - there’s only your way. If you love bright and fruity pour-overs, we’ve got you. If you lean toward chocolatey, comforting brews, we’ve got you, too. Our role is simple: source remarkable Colombian coffees and help you discover the ones you’ll genuinely enjoy. Odds are, you’ll find a favorite here.

“Support the Local” - and mean it

In Europe, we all say “support your local.” With coffee, that local isn’t around the corner - it’s across the ocean, on the mountain slopes of Colombia. Those “locals” are smallholder farmers and family-owned mills who cultivate, harvest, and process every cherry that makes your daily cup possible. Humble Coffee Society exists to center their work and stories. When you choose our coffee, you’re supporting the people and places where coffee actually grows.

A note on pricing and fairness:
In the mainstream coffee trade, many roasters buy from cooperatives at or near the stock-market “C-price” for coffee. In that system, farmers often earn the least, while the greatest margins accrue downstream to roasters and brands. We choose a different path: quality-based, relationship-driven sourcing that aims to keep more value at origin and make every step more transparent.
From Laura, our founder

I’m Laura, born and raised in Colombia. Humble Coffee Society™ is my way to honor two communities I love: my humble people in Colombia and the humble coffee lovers across Europe. My mission is to spread love, give back, and do good - cup by cup, relationship by relationship. Thank you for being part of this bridge.

— Laura

Direct from Colombia - together with Nikolai Fürst and Juan Carlos Guerra

Our coffees are always sourced directly from Colombia, and we’re proud to work closely with Juan Carlos Guerra of Green Hills Coffee and Nikolai Fürst of Desarrolladores de Café (DDC), both Medellín-based, family-owned specialty coffee businesses.

At Green Hills Coffee, Juan Carlos’ family are fifth-generation growers. Their grandfather purchased the flagship farm in 1960. Of its 384 hectares, 226 remain native forest, 8 have been reforested, and 150 are planted with coffee. With over 50 years of continuous coffee production, the farm has mastered the craft of growing high-quality coffee while protecting biodiversity.

Nikolai is a globally recognized, award-winning specialty coffee expert who helps share some of the world’s best coffees with coffee lovers everywhere through DDC. We’re especially proud of these partnerships, built on shared values, meticulous quality, and deep respect for local producers.

This collaboration shortens the supply chain to only the people truly necessary to preserve quality and traceability - so your coffee moves from dedicated growers, through Juan Carlos’ and Nikolai’s teams, to us, and then to you, with integrity intact.

Why we invest 100 cents per bag - on purpose

For every bag you buy, 100 cents go to projects in Colombia that help farmers adapt to rapid environmental change. We keep it at 100 cents (not “1 euro”) to make two things unmistakable:

  1. it’s a fixed, transparent commitment per bag, and
  2. it signals our 100% intent to go beyond what most coffee brands do.

What your 100 cents support:

  • Climate shifts: Rising temperatures push ideal Arabica zones upslope; some farmers must plant at higher altitudes or trial different varieties.
  • Rainfall irregularity: Unpredictable wet/dry cycles disrupt flowering and yields, increasing risk.
  • Pests & disease: Warmer, erratic conditions favor threats like leaf rust and the coffee berry borer.
  • Real-world adaptation: Shade-tree agroforestry, soil and water conservation, climate-resilient nurseries, farmer training and field schools, crop diversification for income stability, and community-led monitoring.

Your contribution backs practical, producer-led solutions that protect livelihoods and the future of the coffees you love.

Radical transparency, right on the bag

Scan the QR code on your package to trace where your coffee comes from, see which project your 100 cents support, and follow updates from the field. Want to do more? Use that same QR journey to get in touch with us - together we can amplify impact through additional donations or targeted support.

Coffee made by people, for people

We release our coffees in small batches because coffee is agricultural, seasonal, and finite - not something that can be pumped out endlessly. Specialty coffee in Colombia is typically grown on steep, varied terrain where selective hand-picking of ripe cherries is essential for quality. That’s why it can’t be industrialized like other crops that allow fully mechanized harvesting on flat, uniform land.

What this means for you:

  • Limited lots with distinct character, shaped by place, variety, and processing.
  • Seasonal availability - flavors follow harvests, not factory schedules.
  • Human craftsmanship at every step - from farm to milling to careful release - so your cup reflects the best of origin, not the limits of a production line.

Our promise

  • Taste first: We champion the coffee you like.
  • People first: We center Colombian producers—the real “locals” behind your daily ritual.
  • Planet in mind: Every bag contributes 100 cents to adaptation where it matters most.
  • Short, honest supply chains: Built with Nikolai Fürst and his Medellín-based family team for quality and traceability.
  • Small-batch releases: Because great coffee is grown, not manufactured.

If this resonates with you, your are welcome to become a humble member of the Humble Coffee Society.
